Since 1996, the Symposium of Biology Students in Europe has taken place in a different European country for a celebration of biology and European culture. This year, from the 27th to the 31st of July, the symposium returned to Portugal for the fourth time, though in a virtual format. SymBioSE Portugal 2021 gathered over 70 participants/students from 24 countries in an event filled with workshops, keynote and participant lectures, country presentations, and poster sessions. Integrating the organising team were 7 former students of the Cellular and Molecular Biology undergraduate program of the NOVA University of Lisbon. The event had several Portuguese keynote speakers who showcased the best of Portuguese biology research to foreign students. Amongst other researchers were Dr. Pedro Viana Baptista and Dr. Ana Rita Grossofrom the University NOVA of Lisbon, which enlightened the participants with their expertise on the topics of bionanotechnology and computational biology, respectively. Next year, the symposium is taking place in Freiburg, Germany, for another round of scientific and cultural exchange. Desde 1996, o Simpósio de Estudantes de Biologia da Europa (SymBioSE) tem lugar numa cidade europeia diferente, visando celebrar a Biologia e a cultura europeia. Este ano, de 27 a 31 de julho, o simpósio voltou a Portugal pela quarta vez, embora num formato online. O SymBioSE Portugal 2021 contou com mais de 70 participantes/estudantes de 24 países, num evento repleto de workshops, palestras de keynotes e participantes, apresentações temáticas de cada país e sessões de posters. A comissão organizadora deste evento foi composta por 7 antigos alunos da licenciatura de Biologia Celular e Molecular oferecida pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa. O evento contou também com a presença de vários investigadores portugueses palestrantes que mostraram o melhor da investigação na área da Biologia em Portugal. Participaram, entre outros investigadores, o Dr. Pedro Viana Baptista e a Dra. Ana Rita Grosso da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, que elucidaram os participantes com a sua experiência em bionanotecnologia e biologia computacional, respetivamente. No próximo ano, o simpósio terá lugar em Friburgo, Alemanha para mais uma troca de conhecimento e cultura.
